The conversation.
An approach should explain the substance of the opportunity without disclosing confidential information unnecessarily. Explain the responsibilities and the reason for the search instead of promising growth in general terms.
Respect the person’s current situation. Ask whether a conversation is welcome, agree how to communicate and avoid assuming that curiosity means an intention to move.
Keep the discussion useful on both sides. Explore professional priorities alongside the needs of the position, and make practical constraints visible before asking for further time.
