Listen for evidence

A detailed answer is useful when it reveals the candidate’s own contribution.

The conversation.

Ask about a real situation connected to the responsibilities. Invite the candidate to explain what was happening, what they decided and what followed. Give them time to distinguish their own contribution from the wider team’s work.

Follow up on the reasoning. What alternatives did they consider? Which constraints shaped the decision? These questions are often more useful than asking for another general example.

Record what the answer establishes and what it leaves open. Interview notes should support a later discussion, not merely preserve whether the interviewer liked the conversation.
